The selection of the 2017 NJLA winners was decided by a panel of judges composed of noted writers Alfred ‘Krip’ Yuson, Susan S. Lara, and Angelo ‘Sarge’ Lacuesta, with support from Graphic Editor-in-Chief Joel Pablo Salud and Graphic Literary Editor Alma Anonas-Carpio.
Plaques and cash prizes include: First Place (P50,000); Second Place (P30,000); and Third Place (P20,000) given to the top three short stories contributed in the Graphic’s Literary Section.
“Poet of the Year” was also chosen.
Here’s the list of winners for the 2017 NJLA:
3rd Price Wayne Benitez Castillo
2nd Price Scott Lee Chua
1st Price Christian Ray Buendia
Poet of the Year Award Anne Carly Abad
The Graphic, which began in 1927, celebrates this year’s NJLA giving honor to the 100th year birth anniversary of National Artist Nick Joaquin, the Graphic’s first editor-in-chief after it was relaunched in 1990 through its third owner—the late media mogul-businessman and philanthropist Antonio L. Cabangon Chua and his family.
It was indeed a remarkable celebration for the literary community, as a whole.
Congratulations to the winners!
