Naibsan umano ang kalbaryo ng mga residente sa Iloilo City dahil sa pagkawala ng dating power utility nito na Panay Electric Company (PECO).
Ito ang lumabas sa special report ng Publishers Association of the Philippines (PAPI) hinggil sa estado ng kuryente sa Iloilo City.
Inisa-isa sa ulat ang mga kapalpakan umano ng PECO mula sa 96 taong pamamayagpag nito at kung bakit tuluyang nawala ang kumpiyansa rito ng mga Ilonggo.
PECO, for much of its last years as the city’s electric power distribution utility, had become synonymous to the phrase “technical incompetence” following years of unexplained and prolonged power interruptions that for a while had actually threatened the economic viability of Iloilo City turning off investors instead of attracting them. PECO’s service, at least in its last few years, was nothing but a complete mess,” nakasaad sa nasabing report.
Una nang tinukoy ng Energy Regulatory Commission o ERC ang hindi maayos na serbisyo ng PECO tulad ng kawalan nito ng maayos na protective devices, hindi ligtas na mga poste, overheating na substations, hindi pagsasagawa ng upgrade sa lumang distribution system at hinuhulaang meter reading.

Una rito, umani ng suporta ang pagpasok sa Iloilo City ng More Electric and Power Corp o MORE POWER sa pag-asang maitatama na nito ang itinuring nilang DARK AGES sa kamay ng PECO.
From the standpoint of being a consumer myself, I ask everyone to bear with the situation and have a little more patience. MORE cannot do miracles, like instantly solving the woes we had experienced for decades under PECO. Its only fair that we allow More to prove its worth,” pahayag ni Msgr Meliton Oso, head ng Jaro Archdiocese Social Action Center.
