UNITEAM’S former Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte are the only presidential and vice presidential candidates advocating the nation’s unity after the May 9 elections, senatorial candidate and former presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo said Thursday.
Addressing members of the Batasan Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (BATODA) at the Batasan area in Quezon City, Panelo, who is running for senator, lauded Duterte for choosing Marcos as her presidential teammate.
“Komportable ako at natutuwa… tatlo ang dahilan kung bakit ako komportable. Unang una, kakaiba sa mga ibang kandidato, si Bongbong Marcos ay hindi ka nariringgan ng pagpuna at pagbanat kay President Duterte, bagkus pinupuri niya ito,” Panelo said.
Panelo said the second reason why he is comfortable with the UniTeam tandem is that they are the only slate pushing for all sectors, regardless of political color, to unite behind the new set of leaders they would elect in May.
“Sila lang po ang nananawagan ng pagkakaisa. ‘Yung mga ibang kandidato, sinasabi nila bakit tayo magkakaisa, dapat ilabas natin ang mga may anomalya…hindi nananawagan ng pagkakaisa, ayaw nga nila magkaisa eh. Hindi raw ngayon ang panahon ng pagkakaisa, kailangan ngayon daw ang pagpili, e mali naman ang intindi nila,” Panelo said.
“Hindi po ‘yan ang ibig sabihin ng pagkakaisa ni Bongbong Marcos. Sa aking pag-aaral sa kanya, ang ibig sabihin ng pagkakaisa, magkaisa tayo sa buong problema at hindi tayo magbanatan, tumulong tayo sa gobyerno at ito ay makakabuti sa bansa,” Panelo stressed.
Marcos and Duterte are also the only candidates who commit themselves to pursue the reforms and programs started by President Duterte.
“Kinakailangan po talaga na iluklok natin sa pamunuan ang mga tao na hindi lang malapit kay Mayor Duterte na ngayon ay Presidente kung hindi ‘yung mga taong nagko-commit o nagsusumpa na itutuloy nila, sapagkat pag hindi po natin tinuloy ang pagbabagong sinimulan ni Presidente Duterte, babalik na naman tayo sa suliranin ng bansa,” Panelo said.
Panelo appealed to voters to choose those who are for reforms and the unity and continued development of the nation.
“Ihalal po natin ang mga tao na nananawagan ng pagkakaisa, nananawagan ng pagsulong sa pagbabago, mga taong tutugon sa pangangailangan ng mga mararalita at yan ay nakikita ko sa grupo ni Mayor Sara Duterte,” he said.
Later, in an interview with reporters, Panelo reiterated President Duterte’s statement that the Chief Executive has not yet chosen any presidential candidate to endorse.
He said the President naturally wants his successor to pursue his reform programs.
