PARTIDO Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) standard-bearer Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. on Friday expressed his profound gratitude for the warm welcome and strong commitment of support given by the residents of Sorsogon.
Marcos was visibly elated as he thanked the multitude who flocked to the Sorsogon City Capitol compound garbed in red and green to show their support for the UniTeam.
“Napakataas ng araw at napakainit ng panahon pero ‘yung salubong pala na ibibigay niyo sa akin ay mas mainit pa. Alam ko po na marami sa inyo ang maaga pa kaninang nandito. Nagtiyagang nakatayo sa ilalim ng araw, pero hindi na po bale, basta tayo ay nagkita at nagsama para tayo’y magkaisa sa ilalim ng UniTeam … Nagpapasalamat kaming lahat ng UniTeam,” he said.
The presidential candidate was humbled by the show of support from the province, which is said to be among the bailiwicks of his closest opponent.
”Buhay na buhay ang Pasko dito sa Sorsogon, madaming bandera at T-shirt at iba’t ibang kulay pula at kulay green ang iwinawagayway. Nakakatuwang makita ang init ng salubong na inyong binigay. Maraming-maraming salamat po. Sabi ko kanina hindi natin balwarte ang Sorsogon kaya tingnan natin kung ano ang magiging audience. Nung narinig ko ang mga sigaw ninyo, tuwang-tuwa ako,” he said.
The huge crowd kept chanting “BBM” as they waved red and green flags.
People wearing red or green started arriving as early as 6 a.m., hours before the rally which was scheduled at 2 p.m.
A tricycle driver who was plying the road in front of the capitol said the crowd was bigger than the crowd during the rally of another presidential candidate the day before and even larger than the crowd that attended Vice President Leni Robredo’s rally that was held earlier.
A woman supporter was apologetic because she was not wearing red but explained that she was at the capitol to attend to some business when she heard that Marcos was due to arrive at the plaza outside so she quickly finished her task and hurried outside.
“Hindi nga ako naka-red kasi hindi ko alam na pupunta si BBM dito. Narinig ko lang habang nasa capitol ako kaya minadali ko na ‘yung inaayos ko para maabutan ko. Gustong-gusto ko siyang makita. Pinagdarasal ko lang na sana makaabot pa kami sa huling biyahe mamaya kasi sa bundok pa kami nakatira,” she said.
