The PNP, through Director for Operations PMGEN VALERIANO T. DE LEON, ordered all police commanders in Metro Manila to strictly implement the gun ban in the National Capital Region, which will start at 12:01 AM on Monday, June 27, as part of the security measures for the inauguration of President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr.
“For the licensed gun owners who have Permit to Carry Firearms Outside Residence (PTCFOR), we would like to remind them that the privilege of carrying their guns is temporarily suspended.” said De Leon.
De Leon said part of the gun ban implementation, which will be in effect until July 2, is the directive to all PNP units in Metro Manila to intensify their intelligence-monitoring in running after criminal elements and threat groups.
“Our goal is to ensure that these people and groups will be denied any opportunity to strike,” said De Leon.
De Leon also warned that he would personally monitor the implementation of the gun ban in order to ensure that all the violators would be punished accordingly.
While the PNP has not monitored any serious threat to the inauguration of Marcos on June 30 at the National Museum, De Leon said they are not lowering their guard and will continuously validate any report.
Former senator and incoming Presidential Legal Adviser Juan Ponce Enrile earlier disclosed that there are groups who are planning to humiliate Marcos on his inauguration day.
De Leon said they have already laid down the security measures, including road closures and traffic rerouting, which started at 12:01 AM on June 26, and are likewise constantly updating the measures to ensure a peaceful and orderly oathtaking event.
On Tuesday, the PNP will activate the Task Force Manila Shield. More checkpoints will be set up at all entry points into the City of Manila.
“As our PNP OIC PLTGEN VICENTE DANAO, JR. said, we are ready.” “This is a historic event and we want to make sure that all the security measures are in place because, aside from the Filipino people, the entire world will be watching this significant event in our history,” said De Leon. —story by Raoul C Esperas (Patrol 45)
