Pinagbibitiw na ng ilang minority congressmen sina Department of Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol at National Food Authority (NFA) Jason Aquino dahil sa krisis sa supply ng bigas at isda partikular ng galunggong.
Ayon kay House Minority Floor Leader at Quezon Province 3rd District Rep. Danilo Suarez, nakadidismaya na ang problemang kinakaharap sa kakulangan at mataas na presyo ng bigas sa Zamboanga City, Basilan, Sulu at Tawi-Tawi.
Bukod pa aniya ito sa hirit ni Piñol na gawing ligal ang rice smuggling at planong mag-import ng galunggong mula China na pinaniniwalaang may formalin.
“I think it’s very unbecoming for no less than the Secretary Manny Piñol to say that yung inimport nila na iba may bukbok. Eh sabi wala naman diperensya ang kumain ng may bukbok sa…eh kung pakanin kita ng bukbok sa bigas mo ano pakiramdam mo.” Pahayag ni Suarez.
Ipinunto naman nina Ako Bicol Partylist Rep. Alfredo Garbin na mistulang ipinanawagan ang kalihim ang pagpatay sa local rice industry kung gagawing ligal ang rice smuggling. sa panig ni Buhay Partylist Rep. Lito Atienza, ipinanawagan din nito ang balasahan sa mga ahensyang nangangasiwa sa food production.
“If you cannot handle the proper provision of food for the Filipinos, a growing healthy population, mag resign kayong lahat give other people some chance to handle the problem.” Pahayag ni Atienza.
“Bakit naman magtatawag na i-legalized ang smuggling they are promoting economic sabotage maling-mali yung signal na ibinibigay.” Pahayag ni Garbin.
