Inako ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang responsibilidad sa pagpapaaresto at pagpapakulong sa 71-taong gulang na Australian Lay Missionary na kalauna’y pinalaya ng Bureau of Immigration o BI.
“It was upon my orders, implemented by the BI, and I take full responsibility, legal or otherwise, for this incident.”
“I ordered her to be investigated, not deported at once, not arrested, but invite her to an investigation for a disorderly conduct.” Pahayag ng Pangulong Duterte
Sinasabing lalahok si Sister Patricia Fox sa International Fact Finding and Solidarity Mission na nananawagan ng imbestigasyon hinggil sa umano’y pagpatay at paglabag sa karapatang pantao ng mga magsasaka sa Mindanao.
Sa kanyang talumpati sa change-of-command ceremony as Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), hindi naitago ni Pangulong Duterte ang kanyang pagka-dismaya kay Sister Pat.
“Huwag mong papasukin kasi walang hiya ang bunganga ng madreng iyan. You do not have the right to criticize us. But you can come here and enjoy all the sites.”

Ayon sa Punong Ehekutibo, sa halip na punahin ang Pilipinas ay dapat batikusin ni Fox ang problema ng kanyang bansa.

Bandang huli, muling nakatikim ng batikos kay Pangulong Duterte ang Simbahang Katolika partikular ang ilang mapang-abusong pari.
“Kayo marami kayong sakit ng ulo. Do not just pretend that just because you are a nun or a priest. Who, I said, who are you?”
