Nagdesisyon ang Senado na isapubliko ang mga isinalaysay ni John Paul Solano sa executive session ukol sa detalye ng pagkamatay ng hazing victim na si Horacio “Atio” Castillo III.
Ito ay makaraang hilingin ito ni Zubiri dahil sa maka-ilang ulit na kabiguan ni Solano na magbigay ng sinumpaang salaysay nito.
“Zubiri: Mr. Solano, “ginagago” mo ba ang aming committee? Solano: No, Your honor. Zubiri: Or do you want to disrespect the committee? Solano: No, Your honor.”
“Let me put on record the many instances where you testified right there on that seat that during the preliminary investigation of this incident, you many times, in your last sworn statement in this committee said that you will release your sworn statement of what have transpired that morning when Atio Castillo had died, I don’t believe it’s beyond your control, ginagago mo lang talaga kami.” Pahayag ni Zubiri
Sa panig naman ni Senadora Grace Poe, tama lamang ang posisyon ng Senado na ilabas na ang testimonya ni Solano.
“Sinabi mo na sana bigyan ka ng pagkakataon, pero sa tingin ko ilang araw na ring palugit ang ibinigay namin at hindi mo natupad kaya sa tingin ko nasa tamang posisyon na ang Senado na ilabas yan.” Pahayag ni Poe
Katwiran naman ni Solano, hinihintay pa ng kanilang kampo na maghain ng affidavit ang mga complainant at saka pa lamang siya magbibigay ng salaysay.
“During October 4 po I’m ready to present my counter-affidavit as well as to prescribe my witnesses that time, what happened was beyond my control , the complainant manifested that they would submit supplemental affidavit or complaints that time, they asked for the hearing to be moved, that time I did not file due to the fact that they would add supplemental complaint. I’m still begging your honor that you give me sometime.” Pahayag ni Solano
Una rito nagbanta pa si Zubiri na ipapa-contempt si Solano dahil sa pagmamatigas nitong magsumite ng sinumpaang salaysay.
We can actually cite you in contempt for not abiding by the promises you’ve made during the executive session, but I believe citing him in contempt and detaining him in the Senate is a useless exercise, I don’t even think we should spend one centavo to feed this gentleman for lying to us, he is not worth it.” Pahayag ni Zubiri
